Hungarian composer Péter Eötvös is set to debut his first Hungarian-language opera, "Valuska," in Budapest on December 2. The opera is based on the acclaimed book "The Melancholy of Resistance" by László Krasznahorkai and was composed at the request of the Hungarian Opera House.
The Inspiration and Storyline
"Valuska" is inspired by the award-winning book "The Melancholy of Resistance" by László Krasznahorkai. The book also served as the inspiration for Bela Tarr's film "Werckmeister Harmonies." The opera tells the story outlined in the book and features main roles sung by Zsolt Haja, Adrienn Miksch, Tünde Szabóki, and András Habetler.
Creative Team
The performance of "Valuska" will be directed by Bence Varga and conducted by Kálmán Szennai. The Eiffel Art Studios, part of the Hungarian Opera House, will host the premiere of this highly-anticipated opera.
