The festival opens with two local heritage-inspired performances at the House of Music, followed by a showcase featuring up-and-coming regional performers at Szimpla on April 13.
These performances are part of the European Showcase Platform for World Music, organized by Hangvető, which provides an opportunity for artists to showcase their talents to world music promoters.
The festival's four stages feature a diverse range of music from around the world, with headline performances from Emilíana Torrini and The Colorist Orchestra and Tamikrest.
Other standout performances include Dagadana's ethno-beat, Vocal Sampling's a cappella renditions of classic Cuban rock ballads, and the psychedelic Saharan riffs of Tamikrest.
Music on Film
The festival also explores the relationship between music and film through a series of handpicked documentaries and music-inspired shorts.
Examples include The Female Voices of Iran, which showcases female vocalists defying oppression, and Taarka, which tells the story of an outcast singer excelling through song.
Ritmo Festival is a celebration of global harmony with something for everyone. It offers an opportunity to discover new and rising talents, alongside watching established artists on world stages. This festival is a must-visit for anyone who loves world music, culture and film.
