Deadlines for paying your Hungarian vehicle tax on time

Vehicle tax, or "gépjárműadó", is imposed on every motor vehicle that is registered in Hungary. Taxpayers can choose to pay in two instalments, due on 15th March and 15th September, or make a single payment by the March deadline. If you own a motor vehicle and are self-employed, you need only pay the vehicle tax unless you account for your car-related expenses as business costs.

It's important to note that vehicle tax and company car tax are separate entities that require individual payment. If the vehicle tax is paid on time and the owner and operator of the vehicle are the same person, it can be deducted from the company car tax.

Payment information will be sent via regular post or electronic inbox for those with Ügyfélkapu access. Recipients can pay through a bank transfer or by visiting the Government Payment Portal.
