A new facility has been established in Budapest for the production of precision helicopter parts for Airbus. This facility will carry out the surface treatment of helicopter parts manufactured at the neighboring Airbus Helicopters Hungary Kft. plant. The CEO of the joint venture between France and Hungary announced this development at the plant.
Surface treatment and certification process
Until now, the surface treatment and coating of the helicopter parts manufactured at the Gyula factory had been carried out at the Marseille plant. However, with the necessary certifications received, the surface treatment will now be done at the Gyula plant itself. It is important to note that the components can only be installed in helicopters after approval by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency.
Future growth and employment opportunities
According to the CEO, the Gyula plant is expected to reach full capacity by 2028. By then, the number of employees will increase from the current 13 to 50. Airbus aims to provide 40 percent of their total capacity by that time. One of the important tasks for the future is to find additional customers by 2028. This expansion is promising for highly qualified workers as it will create job opportunities in the region.
Inauguration and production capabilities
The Airbus factory in Gyula was inaugurated in July 2021. Spanning over 13,000 square meters, the plant produces precision steel and titanium components for the airframe structure and dynamic systems of Airbus helicopters. Additionally, it manufactures some of the door panels. The Gyula facility is the sole supply point for these parts for the entire Airbus family.
About Airbus and the joint venture
Airbus is the leading producer of civil helicopters in the market, securing 48 percent of the market share in 2020. With sites in nine countries worldwide, the Gyula facility is the ninth addition to their global operations. Satys PSP Hungary Zrt., a French-Hungarian joint venture established in February 2023, serves as the surface treatment partner for Airbus Helicopters Hungary. The joint venture has built a 3,100-square-meter surface treatment plant next to the Airbus factory, ensuring supply to markets east of the Rhine.
